Often these bacteria lurk on or in raw or undercooked foods like salad greens, melons, ground beef, and nut butters. Salmonella is a leading cause of stomach upsets, hospitalizations, and even deaths from food poisoning, which sickens an estimated 1.35 million people in the US every year.
