I think parents should avoid the contact of mobile devices with their babies as it can harm their mental development and growth. They would rather insist them to play with other soft toys. I personally provide only stuffed toys to my 6 years old daughter.

Thanks for this post. I’ve noticed the trend myself (though not among kids under 2–yikes!), and find it tremendously unsettling.
This is similar to ignoring children (or telling them not to disturb or even speak to adults, unless spoken to), a trend among certain families–including my own–when I grew up. Fortunately, I’d learned how to read at an early age, but I do think that practice hindered my social skill development.
I can’t begin to imagine what social, emotional, and cognitive costs will be borne by these electronically-appeased children. And society.
