My mother claimed I was a night owl from birth because I was born at 6pm. She added I hardly slept as a newborn baby and this continued all my 70 years, max 5 hrs from high school onward.
In my first job I opted for the 9:30am – 6pm shift as it suited me better. I always hated leaving for school then work at 8am, not really “being awake”. This was true all my working life, I said to more than one boss to not talk to me before 10am.
My family also avoided talking to me in the mornings.
It is true that this night owl pattern stopped me from being active because I was often tired from rising early. But for most of my life I have walked or swam in the late afternoon.
In retirement I can work to my body clock, I usually sleep from 3-4am until 9-10am getting much more sleep than I ever did.

I wish scientists studying about sleep patterns urge about flexible working schedules for the benefit of the night owls. I am a night owl and it is extremely frustrating to fit into a 9-5 world.
