Boston, MA — November 10, 2005 — Harvard Medical School and StayWell today announced an extension and expansion of their 7-year-long relationship to publish high quality health information for the general public.
StayWell will continue to market and distribute Harvard Medical School’s five monthly consumer health newsletters that reach 640,000 subscribers: the Harvard Health Letter, the Harvard Women’s Health Watch, the Harvard Men’s Health Watch, the Harvard Heart Letter, and the Harvard Mental Health Letter. The parties may also create new newsletters.
StayWell also will market and distribute Harvard Medical School’s Special Health Reports—small monographs on many of the most important topics in preserving health and dealing with disease.
Finally, StayWell will market and distribute many new electronic publications, including interactive tools and in-depth content on the topics of greatest importance in health and medicine. The licensed products will include content previously created for the Aetna InteliHealth Web site, for which Harvard Medical School had editorial responsibility.
“This venture is a natural extension of Harvard Medical School’s now 30-year-old mission to provide high quality health information for consumers,” says Anthony L. Komaroff, M.D., Professor of Medicine, who will lead the Harvard Medical School side of the venture along with Howard LeWine, M.D.
“The purpose of this venture is to provide authoritative, timely health care information to consumers to empower them to make informed decisions about their own health and well-being,” says Patrick A. Clifford, Chairman of StayWell. “It’s our shared belief that this will lead to better informed and healthier consumers which will ultimately lower health care costs for individuals, families, employers and managed care organizations.”
