Healthcare reform lowers the cost of checking for hidden diseases
and conditions, but make sure you really need these tests.

Men can now obtain preventive services without copays and deductibles under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Medicare and most private insurance plans must waive cost-sharing provisions for certain preventive screening tests to check for signs of hidden disease.

But depending on your health and age, some screenings may be unnecessary and even risky. "It's important that you and your physician understand how likely you as an individual are likely to benefit from the test," says Dr. Nancy Keating, associate professor of health care policy at Harvard Medical School.
