Guidelines from the National
Cholesterol Education Program recommend testing for
apolipoprotein B (apo B) and non-HDL cholesterol for people with
diabetes, high triglycerides, and/or the metabolic syndrome. In
them, the main thrust of cholesterol-lowering therapy is to get
LDL (bad) cholesterol under control,. and then go after other
lipid problems like low HDL or high triglycerides.
