How to manage your medicines

Before you begin taking another prescription, make sure all your medications are right for you.

How many pills do you take each day? Five? Six? Most of us are on a multitude of medications, prescribed to treat several different health conditions. Yet not every medicine we take may be safe, effective, or appropriate for us.

Part of the problem is that prescribing medicines isn't as straightforward as we get older. For one thing, our bodies metabolize medications differently. For another, we take more medicines than we used to, and they have the potential to interact with one another.
